VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS TO ENTER CHINA
NOTICE: Starting February 1, 2012, the visa office of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. only accepts visa applications from applicants residing in the state unver the consular jurisdiction of the Embassy. Therefore, we only accept applications from the following states: District of Columbia, Delaware, Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
For Tourist Visa
- Your valid, signed U.S. passport, must have at least 6 months remaining validity beyond your intended stay in China. You must have at least one (1) blank visa page. Amendment pages do not count.
- One (1) Visa Application Form, FULLY TYPED and SIGNED.
- One (1) Passport-type Photograph, must be 2" x 2" and taken recently.
- Non-US passport holders must provide documents as a proof of legal status in the U.S. (e.g., Green Card, Work Visa).
- For minors applicants (under the age of 18), please provide:
A copy of child's birth certificate is required, AND A copy of both parents' passports (information page) or US Green Card
- Applicants whose former nationality was Chinese, MUST write down his/her Chinese name in the application form and must provide a photocopy of the old Chinese Visa, OR the information page of the old Chinese passport, OR Chinese Birth Certificate.
- Complete our Visa Order Form (print from browser).
For Business Visa
- Your valid, signed U.S. passport, must have at least 6 months remaining validity beyond your intended stay in China. You must have at least one (1) blank visa page. Amendment pages do not count.
- One (1) Visa Application Form, FULLY TYPED and SIGNED.
- One (1) Passport-type Photograph, must be 2" x 2" and taken recently.
- Non-US passport holders must provide documents as a proof of legal status in the U.S.
- Applicants for Double or Multiple Entries Business Visa require a letter of invitation from the company in China.
- A business letter of responsibility (Sample) is required, to be typewritten on your company letterhead and addressed to:
Embassy of China, Visa Section, Washington, D.C.
The letter must explain all of the following:
- The purpose of visit
- Business reference in China to be visited
- Company guarantee of financial responsibility for the applicant and their return transportation to the U.S.
- First Time applicants whose former nationality was Chinese, must write down his/her Chinese name in the application form and must provide his/her original Chinese passport or a photocopy of the information page of the passport.
- Complete our Visa Order Form (print from browser).
For Student Visa
- Your valid, signed U.S. passport, must have at least 6 months remaining validity beyond your intended stay in China. You must have at least one (1) blank visa page. Amendment pages do not count.
- One (1) Visa Application Form, FULLY TYPED and SIGNED.
- One (1) Passport-type Photograph, must be 2" x 2" and taken recently.
- An approved Foreign Student Visa Application Form (JW201 or JW202) and a letter of acceptance from the Chinese school.
- Non-US passport holders must provide documents as a proof of legal status in the U.S. (e.g., Green Card, Work Visa).
- If you will study in China for more than one year you must also provide a completed Physical Examination Certificate (Form Q2)
- First Time applicants whose former nationality was Chinese, must write down his/her Chinese name in the application form and must provide his/her original Chinese passport or a photocopy of the information page of the passport.

Your application will be checked and hand carried to the Embassy and is usually processed in 10, or in 5 - 7 business days. Rush service is available in 1 - 2 business days for an additional Embassy Rush Fee.
Visa Information
- The Embassy of China usually issues Tourist visa valid for three months from date of issue, for length of stay not to exceed 30 days.
- Please note that China uses Date Format of yy/mm/dd.
- Information and visa fees are subject to change without notice.
Important Note: If you require a Rush processing, please call before you mail your documents to us. You MUST send your documents to us by FedEx Overnight/Priority Overnight/First Overnight and call us with your FedEx tracking number. Fail to do so will delay your visa processing.
